Reserve Bank of Australia Tests Digital Currency With Real Assets for First Time
The Reserve Bank of Australia has launched a landmark six-month pilot program, testing 19 real-world use cases for digital currencies alongside five proof-of-concept simulations. The trials span diverse asset classes—from fixed income securities to carbon credits—evaluating multiple settlement methods including CBDCs, stablecoins, and bank deposit tokens.
Technical infrastructure for the trials incorporates leading blockchain platforms like Hedera, R3 Corda, and Redbelly, ensuring a comprehensive assessment of distributed ledger capabilities. Results from this ambitious initiative will shape Australia's digital currency roadmap when published in early 2025.
